You have hired a good moving service to help you out with your move, but you intend to get rid of a lot of things before the big day. Maybe you are relocating to a much smaller home or maybe you need the extra money. In either case, a successful moving sale is a good plan of action. The best moving sale is one that is properly planned. Here are a few tips to remember.

1. Schedule the event early enough.

You do not want to schedule the sale all that close to your actual moving day. Try to schedule the sale at least a week or so in advance. Having both things taking place back to back can be quite tiresome and stressful. Plus, if there are items left behind after the sale, you will have enough time to get rid of what is left before you actually leave.

2. Make sure the sale will last more than one day.

Holding the moving sale for more than one day will garner you the biggest number of attendees. Those who can't make it one day may be able to make it the next. Arranging for a sale on a Friday and Saturday, for example, can yield the biggest number of prospects.

3. Advertise and market your sale properly.

You have to advertise your moving sale well to get a good number of interested customers. Post ads in the local newspaper, on the radio, or online in local community groups. Make sure you post signs a few days before the sale if your city allows it.

4. Get local movers on-board to help you and your customers out.

Some moving companies offer one-piece moving services, which can be really helpful when someone buys an item at your sale. You can post a sign up at your sale that lets people know the name of the moving company who can help them move their item from your home to theirs.

5. Make sure all items are priced appropriately.

Pricing your items appropriately will help ensure they actually sell. If you are fairly motivated to get rid of everything, you may be willing to accept really small payments for most of your items. If you want things priced a little closer to value, do some research online to determine the best prices. Also, make sure all items are clearly marked. Not pricing your items is a good way to lose a sale; most prospects do not like to ask the price on things.
